Hey kids! Come jump on the Solfa!!

We have an awesome piano teacher! He's a foreigner working on his PhD in piano performance at Indiana University about 40 miles from here, but we have enough students in one location that he's willing to drive here every week to do a solid 2+ hour block of lessons for Laundryman, PTHK, Harvey Jr, DW and Snoozer. Niccus is about to start next Saturday. And Pooka occasionally takes a slot when our older boys are off at scout activities.

Maybe due to his academic background, he is very careful on things like technique and precision. Our children had lessons before - but we've really seen them blossom with his assistance. (And the consistent practice Pooka extracts from them.)

However - he and Pooka had a disagreement a few weeks ago that led to some changes. In some places outside the US notes are not named with a Letter scale, but instead with Solfa (pronounced solfedge) names. The disagreement was specifically about the use of letter names or a 'fixed Do' naming system. Although Pooka remained unconvinced of the value of using a fixed Do system rather than letter names, there is something fun that came of this disagreement: she decided it was time to teach our children Solfa.

This started several weeks ago, but has always taken place while I was away. But one day this week they forgot to have it during the day, so I got to see what they've learned...
